Types of government- They are sort of based off a democratic/republic framework.
Major issues about or within the government- Chile wasn't always a democratic type of government, they had only recently changed back into Democracy in March of 1990. They had been forced out of their democratic ways and into a dictatorship in 1973 until that reign had ended and they switched back into a democracy in 1990. They had felt that when they were under a dictatorship their "leader" had basically thrown away most their human rights. The military commanders had underestimated how powerful the democratic and republican parties had been practiced in Chile. It was a big part of Chile's character. Eventually their "leader" was forced out of his position after a humiliating defeat and they once again transitioned back into a democratic/republican government after seventeen years of being dictated.
How it impacts other elements of culture- Chile has had problems with who is running their country a lot of the time. When they started to be dictated for 17 years, now they have a president again and they are a democracy/republic again.
